About the Role
Our Client a UK manufacturer and supplier of professional beauty and cosmetics products. They develop, test, and manufacture products for our own brands and create private-label and OEM ranges for external clients. Teams collaborate to take products from concept and formulation through testing, manufacture, compliance, and market launch.
The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Cosmetic Laboratory & Regulatory Technologist to play a hands-on role in laboratory development, formula and batch evaluation, product testing, manufacturing support, and day-to-day cosmetics compliance. This is a varied, site-based position ideal for someone comfortable making laboratory batches, evaluating formulas, organizing test programmes, supporting production, and explaining technical or compliance requirements to private-label clients.
In one sentence: A hands-on technologist who can make and assess products, support manufacturing, maintain accurate technical and regulatory records, and communicate clearly with internal teams and clients.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare, refine, and troubleshoot laboratory, pilot, and production batches using controlled formulas and accurate technical records.
- Evaluate product appearance, odour, colour, pH, viscosity, density, homogeneity, application, and performance.
- Plan and run stability, compatibility, performance, and product-panel programmes, recording results and drawing evidence-based conclusions.
- Coordinate microbiological, challenge, analytical, and specialist external testing as required.
- Support scale-up, first production batches, and investigations of batch variation or technical complaints.
- Maintain formulas, specifications, manufacturing instructions, batch records, test reports, artwork records, and product technical files.
- Maintain compliance trackers across own-brand, private-label, and OEM product portfolios.
- Review INCI lists, labels, artwork, claims, warnings, durability information, and UK/EU notification details.
- Communicate with private-label clients, safety assessors, Responsible Persons, laboratories, suppliers, and internal teams.
- Support cosmetic GMP, change control, deviations, CAPA, complaints, audits, retained samples, and technical document control.
Essential:- Relevant degree, HND, or equivalent technical qualification, or strong equivalent cosmetics-industry experience.
- Hands-on formulation and batch-manufacturing experience in cosmetics, personal care, or a closely related sector.
- Experience with stability, compatibility, performance, or microbiological testing and disciplined result recording.
- Working knowledge of UK and EU cosmetics compliance, including product files, INCI, labels, claims, notifications, and GMP.
- Strong technical writing, document-control, spreadsheet, and data-handling skills.
- Clear client communication, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple products, tests, and deadlines.
- Experience in private-label, OEM, or contract cosmetics manufacturing.
- Experience with professional lash, brow, hair-treatment, or salon-use products.
- Knowledge of SCPN, CPNP, cosmetic GMP, or ISO 22716.
- Experience with packaging compatibility, scale-up, claims substantiation, or production troubleshooting.
- A genuinely varied role across formulation, testing, manufacturing, compliance, and client contact.
